According to ESPN Brazil (via the Daily Mail), Pelé was rushed to the hospital over the weekend due to full-body swelling, which could suggest heart failure. The publication also states that the soccer star's chemotherapy "is no longer working" and that he displayed symptoms of confusion. Given this concerning news, Pelé's daughter has given fans a much-needed update about the state of his condition.
Pelé's daughter assures fans that he's fine
According to Pelé's daughter, Kely Nascimento, Pelé is doing considerably better than previous reports led the public to believe. "Hi my friends," Nascimento wrote via Instagram. "Lots of alarm in the media today concerning my dad's health. He is in the hospital regulating medication. Some of my siblings are visiting Brazil. There is no emergency or new dire prediction. I will be there for New Years and promise to post some pictures. Really and truly, we appreciate the concern and love!!"
An update by the Daily Mail states that Pelé is stable. "After medical evaluation, the patient was taken to a common room, without the need for hospitalisation in a semi-intensive unit or ICU," said Pelé's hospital in a statement. "The former player is in full control of vital function and [in a] stable clinical condition." Just as Nascimento mentioned in her post, the statement also mentioned that Pelé was having his chemotherapy medication reassessed. Hopefully, things continue to look up for the beloved athlete.
